Environmental Law & Litigation

The landscape of environmental law is ever-changing, with new technologies such as ‘fracking’ (hydraulic fracturing) becoming prevalent and new laws taking effect each year.  At Dutel Law Firm, we strive to keep abreast of the latest developments in St. Tammany Parish and throughout the state, in order to serve our clients in the areas of environmental law and litigation.

From oil spill claims to water quality concerns, we can assist our clients with their environmental law issues.   On one hand, we can assist our clients in ensuring they are compliant with environmental regulations.  On the other hand, we have worked with citizens and communities in preventing harm to people, land, and water.  We have experience in litigation after pollution discharges, accidents, or noncompliance events, and we also have experience in navigating the alternative claims processes for oil spills.

Shannon Derksen has a Certificate in Environmental Law from Tulane Law School and has worked as a student attorney in the Tulane Environmental Law Clinic, as a law clerk at the Southern Environmental Law Center, and as an outdoor environmental educator prior to law school. She has enjoyed the outdoors since she was a small child on hunting and fishing trips with her father, and now explores the Sportsman’s Paradise whenever she has an opportunity to go canoeing, hiking, or camping.  She is passionate about environmental law and regularly attends Continuing Legal Education courses in the area of environmental law as well as community meetings, events, and seminars in the New Orleans and Northshore areas, including the Tulane Environmental Law Summit and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries’ Becoming an Outdoors-Woman program.
